Model builder, Photographer, Artistic Director.... Michael Paul Smith

What is it about the town of Sewickley that inspires a lasting deep affection of all who live here or visit our small town? Our beloved village seems to harken back to a feeling of Mayberry; as if on any given day, Barney Fife will come striding down Beaver Street. Perhaps it is our tree-line sidewalks, friendly populace or the plethora of mom and pop shops that garners a sense of community in the minds and hearts of all who experience the village.

Fast forward to this spring’s Art and Gallery Walk that will be held on April 29th. It is an honor and a privilege for me to introduce our town to Flickr Phenomenon, Michael Paul Smith. In recreating his boyhood memories from Sewickley, Mr. Smith scratch-builds scale-model buildings, which he uses to create many different sets that are populated with model cars dating back to the mid 20th century. Set against outdoor backdrops of his current hometown of Winchester, MA, the model scenes are photographed thereby blending backgrounds to create his vision of the perfect town.
