Slips of paper, made of mulberry bark are rubbed with a bamboo barren to create the Ukiyo-e (pictures of a fleeting, floating world). Depicting pursuits of the merchants of Edo (modern day Tokyo), courtesans, cherry blossoms and Kabuki Theatre were among the favorite subjects.
